The Story Behind the Name

After many questions and a little bit of confusion, we figured it was about time to tell the story behind the name of Hannah Douglas Photography. So here it goes…

In short, Hannah Douglas Photography is named after myself, Kristina Hannah, and my husband, Tristan Douglas. I have not partnered with anyone other than him and there is no one else working alongside me at this point in time. We work together on this little project as we do in all things and it seemed only fitting to name our photography business after us both.

A little of him + A little of me

“We work together on this little project as we do in all things and it seemed only fitting to name our photography business after us both.”

Longer story, after much consideration, just throwing our names together didn’t sound right (I mean Kristina Tristan Photography?!?...sounds silly to me). We thought through some alliterations with our last name, like Maness Moments or something of the sort, but nothing seemed to fit and tell our story the way we wanted to. We considered going with just my name, but that didn’t fit either as this endeavor was not solely mine to take. (If you or your spouse have a small business you understand both parties are involved to some degree.) I was throwing around ideas with Tristan one day and threw out “Hannah Douglas” as a potential idea. He thought for a minute and then agreed there was no better way to name the business than using our middle names (which sound so much better together), and so the name stuck. At first it was just a dream, one day we will run a photography business named “Hannah Douglas Photography”, but one day came sooner than we were anticipating.

I took a giant leap this spring and resigned from my full time job as a teacher to further pursue this little side job and turn it into a little more than a side job and into a business. (This is where one person’s side job turns into both people's small business.) Tristan agreed it was time for me to move on from teaching and encouraged me to really press into growing the business. So here we are, Tristan is going back to work next week and for the first time since I walked into pre-school all those years ago, I will not be returning to the classroom this fall.
